Opening hours

Tuesday to Sunday 10am – 5pm and every day during the school holidays.

Extended hours: Open until 8pm on the last Friday of the month (except December), open every public holiday except Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Open 1-5pm on Anzac Day

Entry Fee

General admission is free. Some special exhibitions and events may incur a charge.

Public transport to the Gallery

By Bus

Stops for various routes operate on Hunter Street, King Street, and Darby Street.

By Train

Hamilton Station is the closest station to Newcastle Art Gallery. Bus routes to the Gallery are available from Hamilton Station. Click here to visit the NSW Transport information website, or call 131 500.

Parking

Free 1 and 2-hour parking is available in and around Darby Street, and free 30-minute parking is available on Laman Street. Paid all day parking available at the rear car park in Queen Street.

Time limits, paid ticketing systems and Compliance Officers operate in the Civic Park and Cooks Hill area, please check the street signs when you visit.

Groups and Tours

Large groups are encouraged to call and inform us of their visit. Newcastle Art Gallery Guides provide free tours to interested groups booking at least a week in advance. For more information, call the Audience Programs Officer on 4974 5112 or email artgallerybookings@ncc.nsw.gov.au

Cloakroom services

The helpful gallery staff will store personal and bulky items as a courtesy while you are at the Gallery. Please be aware it is a requirement of the Gallery to leave any bags or items exceeding A3 in size at our front counter, particularly backpacks as they can be a risk to works of art on display. It is at the Gallery’s discretion to request a bag or item be stored during your visit.

Newcastle Art Gallery is completely wheelchair accessible and has a courtesy wheelchair available on request.
