Dulwich Hill Visitor Guide
The suburb takes its name from the area of Dulwich in London and is known affectionately by the Sydney locals as Dully. It is just 8km south west of the Downtown Sydney and the CBD.
Like many suburbs in the inner-west, Dulwich Hill experienced rapid growth in the early twentieth century. As a consequence, it has a large number of examples of Australian Federation architecture and also has examples of Edwardian, Gothic and Italianate architecture.
The former public school in Seaview Street, now the Dulwich Hill High School of Visual Arts and Design is listed on the Register of the National Estate. The building was designed by W.E.Kemp in the Romanesque style and built circa 1892. The school is in the same street is the former Dulwich Hill Library, then housed in a converted Victorian Gothic style cottage.
