The Sydney Opera House is World Heritage-listed, world-famous, and the icon of Sydney.

As Sydney’s most recognisable landmark it heads all lists of the must-see spots when you visit Sydney. It is an architectural marvel designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon and opened By Queen Elizabeth in 1973.

When you walk around the foreshore from Circular Quay the off-white sail-like roofs of the Opera House grow above you and as you ascend the grand steps at the entrance only then do you see how intricately constructed the building is. Up close you can understand why it to 14 years to build. The one million tiles on the sails took 3 years to make and were seen by Utzon as being an essential ingredient in the success of the structure. Inside the spaces are awe inspiring and truly wonderful and accommodate a wide range of concerts, symphonies, operas, intimate musical events and a broad spectrum of entertainments.

The Opera House is also a special location for dining and enjoying views of the harbour. If you are able to be there at sunset you will never forget the occasion.

So allow a half-day, or a day, or an evening to discover and explore Australia’s number one tourist destination and its busiest performing arts centre.

“Fusing ancient and modernist influences, and situated on a site sacred to the Gadigal people for thousands of years, the sculptural elegance of the Sydney Opera House has made it one of the symbols of twentieth century architecture – a building that, to quote US architect Frank Gehry, “changed the image of an entire country.” SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
