Chau Chak Wing Museum

“This museum draws on the Nicholson, Macleay and University Art collections. The Nicholson Collection is the largest collection of antiquities in the southern hemisphere. The Macleay Collections include some of Australia’s most significant natural history objects. The University Art Collection comprises more than 8,000 historical and contemporary works spanning a millennia.”

The Chau Chak Wing Museum is a museum located on the campus of the University of Sydney in Australia. It was designed by architects from the firm JPW and was opened in November 2020. The museum is named after businessman and philanthropist Dr. Chau Chak Wing, who donated AUD 15 million towards its construction.

The museum houses a diverse range of collections, including antiquities, ancient and contemporary art, natural history specimens, archaeological artifacts, and ethnographic objects. Some of the highlights of the collection include Egyptian mummies, Chinese ceramics, Indigenous Australian artifacts, and works by contemporary artists.

In addition to its collections, the Chau Chak Wing Museum also offers educational programs and hosts temporary exhibitions. Its facilities include galleries, research spaces, a conservation lab, and a lecture theatre.

GETTING TO THE MUSEUM
The Chau Chak Wing Museum is located opposite the University’s Quadrangle buildings a new cultural institution for the public at the heart of the University’s Camperdown campus.
The entrance to the Museum is located on University Place, directly across from the Great Hall and Quadrangle lawns, and next to Fisher Library.The Museum building sits at the University Avenue campus entrance, off Parramatta Road and next to Baxter’s Lodge and the historic gates. Scenic Victoria Park and Broadway are a minute’s walk from the Museum.
