Balmain has many narrow and winding streets so there is 40km speed limit and there is only limited parking.
We suggest using public transport to get there and then walking around.
William Balmain was a British naval surgeon who sailed as an assistant surgeon with the First Fleet to establish the first European settlement in Australia, and later he became the colony’s Principal Surgeon (1788-1791).
Balmain’s historical soul is grounded in working class culture as it was not that long ago it was primarily the home for working families. In fact was in Balmain that the Australian Labor Party was formed in 1891.
